Bob Campbell aka 'Stig' is a self taught English sculptor, best known for his furniture design and his use of salvaged mechanical and industrial parts. His home and workshop are located in Clowne Town, in a region of England that was traditionally a center for heavy engineering and steel production. This area experienced a dramatic decline in fortunes from the 1980's onwards, and a theme of regeneration/reinvention is evident in both the forms and materials he works with. The name Stig is taken from the popular children's book "Stig of the Dump'
"I create furniture that goes far beyond its functional use. Each piece I produce is unique, the materials I use are reclaimed or repurposed from industrial scrap metal. By doing this I create sculpture that can bring a touch of the sublime into a domestic or everyday setting, as well as addressing the global need to re-use existing materials."
